Esther M. Hinkle, 85, Logansport, passed away at 5:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, at Miller’s Merry Manor.
Esther was born to Chester and Myrtle Davis on Aug. 23, 1928, in Huntington. She married Carl Hinkle on Aug. 11, 1958. He preceded her in death.
Esther was a dedicated nurse and earned her nursing degree at Lutheran School of Nursing in Fort Wayne in 1949. She furthered her nursing education at St. Francis College, Fort Wayne, and Indiana University, Indianapolis.
She knew as a young girl that she wanted to be a nurse and started after graduation as a surgical nurse at Huntington Hospital, Huntington. After her marriage to Carl she moved with him to Logansport where she worked as a surgical nurse at Logansport Memorial Hospital for several years. When medical problems caused her to give up surgical nursing and standing for long hours, she moved on to Chase Manor and then to the Logansport State Hospital, where she retired.
Esther is survived by a sister, Deloris Shock, Huntington; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Jean Guthier and Jane Jones.
Honoring her wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service.
