William G. ‘Buss’ Zartman Jr.

William G. “Buss” Zartman Jr. 77, Macy, Nyona Lake, and formerly of Defiance, Ohio, passed away at 7:10 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, at WoodBridge Health Campus in Logansport.

He was born June 15, 1932, in Peru, the son of William G. Sr. and Anna Gooch Zartman. He graduated from Fulton High School in 1950. After high school, he served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed at the Chicago Naval Air Station, Naval Air Station, Norman, Okla., and the Aviation Electrician School in Jacksonville, Fla., where he was a member of the Jacksonville Naval Air Squadron from 1952-1956. On July 3, 1954, in Three Oaks, Mich., he married Marilyn M. Sittig. She preceded him in death on Aug. 6, 2004. Mr. Zartman was a 1958 graduate of Tri-State University, Angola, with a degree in electrical engineering.

Mr. Zartman had worked at McMahon-O’Connor Construction, Rochester, Pierceton Trucking Company, Pierceton, Gooch-Sinclair Filling Station, New Buffalo, Mich., and Studebaker Corporation, South Bend, before working for General Motors in Defiance, Ohio from 1958-1987. He retired as manager from maintenance and engineering at General Motors in 1987. After his retirement, he moved to Redington Shores, Fla. He had been a member of the Elks Lodge, American Legion, St. Jerome Catholic Church, Largo, Fla., and enjoyed farming and boating.

Survivors include his children, William G. “Buss” Zartman III and wife, Kim, Macy (Nyona Lake), Brenda A. Cameron, Defiance, Ohio, and Paul R. Zartman, Palm Harbor, Fla.; grandchildren, William G. Zartman IV and wife, Emily, Defiance, Ohio, Brett Zartman, Macy (Nyona Lake), Keith Cameron, and Kyle Cameron, both of Defiance, Ohio, Joshua Cameron, and Rex Cameron, both of Tennessee, Erica Zartman, and Chase Zartman, both of Defiance, Ohio, and Jennifer Zartman, and Trey Zartman, both of Trinity, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Addison, Brady, Skylee, Tanner, Jillian, and Bryson, all of Defiance, Ohio, and Luctian, Kalida, Ohio; brother, Robert Zartman and wife, Diane, Macy (Nyona Lake); and several nieces and nephews.
