George ‘Bill’ Dempsey


LOGANSPORT — George “Bill” Dempsey, 84, Logansport, passed away at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis.

Born Dec. 14, 1928, in Logansport, he was the son of the late Raymond and Mary (Lew) Dempsey. On May 13, 1951, in Logansport, he married Issa “Jean” Stephens who preceded him in death Feb. 24, 2011.

Mr. Dempsey was a retired general car foreman for the Pennsylvania Railroad.

He was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 3790. George enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and spending time with his family.

Surviving him is one daughter, Tena (Terry) Martin, Logansport; two sons, Ty (Karen) Dempsey, Winamac; and William (Sharon) Dempsey, Powell, Ohio; four grandchildren, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Dempsey, Leslie (Kenny) Maxie, Maddison Dempsey, and Teighlor Dempsey; three great-grandchildren, Addison and Emilie Dempsey and Lily Maxie; sister, Joan Decker, Logansport; and two brothers, Dick (Betty Lou) Dempsey, Ala., and Jack (Rita) Dempsey, Myrtle Beach, S.C.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Gerald Dempsey, and one sister, Doris Green.

A funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Gundrum Funeral Home, with Father Clark Miller officiating. Burial with full military rites will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cass County Relay For Life.
