Mary Eilene Moore, 90, Logansport, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, June 1, 2014, in her home with her family around her.
Mary Eilene was born at home on June 21, 1923, in Logansport, to Gerald and Agnes (Harwood) Spahr.
A 1941 graduate of Logansport High School, Mary Eilene attended University of Chicago on a scholarship for a year. She then attended Indiana Business College during the summer of 1942.
On Oct. 10, 1942, at First United Methodist Church, she was married to William F. Moore. They had 60 years together before he passed away in 2002.
Starting when her youngest child was in school, she worked part time at the Christian Booksellers Association where her husband was executive secretary until 1965. She and her husband moved back to Logansport in 1976 to help care for her parents and her aunt. During this time,she worked as secretary and treasurer at First United Methodist Church, a position she held for many years.
She was active in Joy Circle, pre-K Sunday school teaching, the church toddler room, the church library, the church secretary group, Tourist Club, and the LHS Class of ‘41 for which she helped organize their 70th reunion.
So many family and friends have been the recipients of her love and kindness. She was an exceptional listener and faithfully sent birthday and other cards hundreds of friends and family members over the years. She loved to read and made a point of reading the Bible through every year. She was a warm, kind, caring, intelligent woman who will be missed by all whose lives she has touched.
She was chosen as “Valiant Woman” by the Church Women United in 2009, a recognition given to “a woman who has given service to Church Women United, her own church, and her community for an extended period of time.” In the nomination, it is explained the selectee is a person who leads through her example, and lives the gospel message in her every day life.
