Richard G. ‘Dick’ Bower
Richard G. “Dick” Bower, 85, Logansport, passed away at 11:40 p.m. Monday, May 5, 2014, in his residence, surrounded by his family.
Born July 14, 1928, in Logansport, he was the son of George and Marguerite Sewnig Bower.
On Oct. 27, 1951, in St. Joseph’s Church, he was married to Joan Minneman, who survives. They were married 62 years.
Dick retired in 1995 as owner of West Side Auto Sales. He had also been employed as a sales representative at Wabash Wholesale, as a campus police officer at Purdue University, and as a yard brakeman for the Pennsylvania Railroad.
A 1946 graduate of Logansport High School, Dick attended Indiana University. He served nine years in the Indiana National Guard. He was a life member of the Logansport Elks and was also a member of All Saints Catholic Church.
Surviving, in addition to his wife; are a son, Michael (Sallie) Bower, Galveston; daughters, Kelly (Tom) Ulerick, Walton and Kerry Bower-Herr (Richard), Apopka, Fla.; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jeff) Moss, Chelsea (Bryce) McDonald, Jillian Bower, Riley Bower, Hunter Herr and Blake Ulerick; great-grandchildren, Jocelynne Moss, Jenna Moss and Jonathan Moss; several step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A sister, Pat Carney, preceded him in death.
The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Kroeger Funeral Home, with Father Dominic Petan officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Guardian Angel Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
