Mildred Geneva Nelson, 96, formerly of Walton, went home to be with the Lord at 7:52 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Logansport.
She was born Jan. 21, 1918, in Cass County to Perry and Nora (Campbell) Knight. She was raised by Dave and Annie McCloskey. On Sept. 28, 1946, she married John A. Nelson in Kokomo, who preceded her in death Oct. 31, 2006.
Geneva was a cook for Thompson Elementary School for more than 20 years. She graduated from Young America High School in 1937 and was a member of Walton Christian Church, Ladies Aid Society and the Walton American Legion Aux. Geneva enjoyed cooking, baking, spending time with her family and helping others.
Surviving family include her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Marcia Nelson of Kokomo; daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Larry Wissinger of Logansport; two grandchildren, Craig Nelson and Stacy and husband Paul Bowser of Kokomo; one great-grandson, Cameron Rice, also of Kokomo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John; and several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Murray Weaver Funeral Home, Galveston, with the Rev. Bill Collins officiating. Burial will follow in Center Cemetery near Young America.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
