Thomas W. Davis

Thomas W. Davis, 93, Winamac, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, Ind.

He was born May 26, 1920, in Star City, to Otis and Blanch Fahler Davis. Tom married Ruby L. Reinholt., who died April 28, 2007. He later married Veneda L. Galbreath Hoesel.

Tom was a United States Navy veteran. He served on the USS Rockdale in the Pacific during World War II. Tom was retired from the United States Postal Service as a rural mail carrier. He also was an insurance agent, a plumber, and a volunteer firefighter.

Tom was a member of Star City United Methodist Church and Winamac VFW 1728.

Tom enjoyed tinkering, driving his golf cart with his cat named Cat (White Mountain), buying and riding in cars, and watching the river. Tom loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an imaginative story teller and his children and grandchildren will always remember his fascinating tales and life lessons.

Survivors include his wife Veneda Davis, Winamac; daughters, Chris (Ted) Sputh, Indianapolis, Patti (John) Grimm, Evansville, Marybeth (Ed) Cunius, West Chester, Pa., and Susie (Tom) Grumme, Indianapolis; grandchildren, Carl Sputh, Ryan Sputh, Tom (Mary) Grimm, Anna Grimm, Adam Grimm, Kyle (Mike) Cooney MacNeal, Kelly (Jason) Cooney Krugh, Sean Cooney, Samantha Cunius, Kate Grumme and Paige Grumme; and great-grandchildren, Aaron MacNeal, Noah MacNeal, Ruby Krugh and Olivia Krugh.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby L. Reinholt Davis; father, Otis Davis; mother, Blanch Fahler Davis; and sisters, Flora Faye Knipple, Bessie Baughman and Alma Jean Lawrence.

A Celebration of Life service will be 11 a.m. EDT Saturday, Aug. 3 at Star City United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ruth Waite officiating. Graveside services will follow Tom’s life celebration at Star City West Cemetery. The VFW and American Legion will conduct military graveside services.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. EDT Aug. 3 prior to the service at Star City United Methodist Church.

Memorial contributions may be given to Star City United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 277 Star City, IN 46985 or to the Pulaski Animal Center P.O. Box 156 Winamac, IN 46996.
