Deloris ‘Dee’ Layer


ROYAL CENTER — Deloris “Dee” Layer, 81, Royal Center, passed away at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2013, at her residence.

Born on Oct. 17, 1931, in Logansport, she was the daughter of the late Reuben and Edna (Thomas) Jones.

She was a 1950 graduate of Royal Center High School.

Dee had formerly worked at Moser’s Drug Store in Royal Center and Controls in Logansport. She enjoyed dancing, funny movies, traveling and preparing many Sunday dinners for her family.

Survivors include her children, Richard “Rich” Layer (Jan) of Royal Center and Cindy S. Blackman (Tom) of Monticello; grandchildren, Shane Layer (Tracy), Chris Layer (Missy), Jamie Hoover (Leander), Rhiana Lavender (Joe), Gracie Byroad (Danny) and Mason Blackman (Lindsey); and 18 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by nephew Jerry Jones (Valerie) of Royal Center and sister-in-law Margaret Fiedler of Logansport.

She was preceded in death by companion, Jim Wilson; brother, Jay Jones; and two great-granddaughters.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Home, Royal Center Chapel. Burial will be in Kistler Cemetery, Royal Center.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
