PERU — Thomas C. “Tim” Maiben, 81, Peru, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2012, at Caring Hands Health Care Center, Peru.
He was born June 10, 1931, in Logansport, to Thomas R. and Maxine Yeakey Maiben. Tim attended Logansport High School, Culver Military Academy and RPI Institute in Troy, N.Y. He graduated from short-course at Purdue University.
Tim served in the U.S. Marine Corps (1951-1957) and served in the Korean War.
Tim’s memberships were AASR Northern Masonic Jurisdictions USA, 32nd degree; Fraternal Order of Eagles; Purdue Ag Alumni Association; Culver Legion Alumni and Black Horse Troop; Tipton Lodge, 33 F&AM; Murat Shrine Club; life member Veterans of Foreign Wars; and life member Elks USA.
Tim was the third generation of Maibens to own and operate Maiben’s Laundry in Logansport. Along with his farming interests, he owned and operated Maiben’s Landfill and Trash Removal Service. He also owned and operated a Robo carwash and a Standard Oil Service Station from 1966-1976.
Tim’s love for farming began in the 1950s and remained a vital part of his life. He was named the Indiana Superior Tomato Grower in 1966. His no-till farming practices began in the 1990s, and this is still a practice on today’s farm.
He married Patricia Meade, who survives along with five children, Cheryl Meyer, Susan Budreau, Charles Maiben, Tim (Stephany) Maiben and Cami Maiben. His grandchildren are Kristi Kunaschk, Mark Meyer, Katie and Paul Meyer, Tyler Budreau, Daniel Budreau, Hayden, Hallie, Addie and Averie Maiben. His great-grandchildren are Ava and Gavin Kunaschk.
A memorial service, with full military honors, will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at McGrawsville United Methodist Church in Amboy.
