PERU — Dennis Lake, 69, Peru, passed away at 7:55 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at home surrounded by his family.
He was born March 29, 1945, in Kokomo to Donald C. and Margaret Virginia (Herrell) Lake. On Sept. 3, 1966, he married Joyce Fewell in Onward, and she survives.
Dennis retired from Delco Electronics in Kokomo with 30 years of service. He also retired from the Cass County Sheriff’s Department as a reserve deputy serving 20 years on the department. He also worked seven years for Chrysler.
After his retirement from the Sheriff’s department, he served on the Merit board for 11 years. He also farmed with his father and partnered with his son Greg in their excavating business Envirosystems Inc.
Dennis was a member of Onward Christian Church in Onward, where he served as deacon. Memberships also include the Walton Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite Valley of Fort Wayne. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also enjoyed wood and metal working and spending time with his family.
Dennis and his son Greg spent many years building his special pond that he enjoyed sharing with everyone. Dennis also served his country in the National Guard.
Surviving family include his wife, Joyce Lake, Peru; son, Greg (Sarah) Lake, Kokomo; daughter, Denise (Tim) Morgan, La Porte; six grandchildren, Brittney (Kevin) Shafer, Warren, Bree Morgan, La Porte, Dylan, Devon and Grace Lake, Kokomo; brother, Doug (Jan) Lake of Fort Wayne; and nephew, Dean (Karen) Bullock of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Phyllis Johnson.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Onward Christian Church, 21 Oak Street in Onward, with the Rev. Rod Mason officiating. Burial will follow at Galveston Cemetery, Galveston.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Onward Christian Church and one hour before service time Monday at the church. Masonic rites will take place at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the church.
