ROCHESTER — Hazel Marie Leavell 92, Rochester, passed away at 2:15 p.m. Sunday, June 29, 2014, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.
She was born Oct. 29, 1921, in Fairfield, Iowa, the daughter of Everett William and Hazel Ann (Daugherty) Boldry. On March 14, 1941, in Star City, she married Robert D. “Bob” Leavell. Bob and Marie spent many years after retirement wintering in Sebring, Florida prior to Bob’s passing on Dec. 23, 2008.
Marie graduated from Grass Creek High School in 1939 and received an associates degree from Indiana Business College, Logansport. Early in life, she worked as a telephone switchboard operator and as bookkeeper at First National Bank, Rochester, and for the Stoney Pike Sale Barn, Logansport.
In her spare time she was a member of the Fletcher’s Lake United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Fulton County 4-H Leader, Fulton County Extension Homemakers Chorus, Woodlawn Hospital Auxiliary, Fulton County Campers Association and the Swinging Dudes square dancing group. She also enjoyed ceramics and crocheting, especially making afghans and quilts for her grandchildren’s births, graduations and marriages.
Survivors include her children, Joe and wife Alice Leavell, Carmel, Jerry and wife Betty Leavell, Rochester, Jack and wife Nancy Leavell, Cary, N.C., Judy and husband Ken Uiselt, Mercer, Pa., Joan and husband Wayne Steele, Rochester, Jeff and wife Diane Leavell, Fenton, Mo.; 16 grandchildren, Darla Leavell, Dennis Leavell, Todd Leavell, Tina (Leavell) Burns, Michelle Leavell, Parry Leavell, Amy (Leavell) Horne, Leann (Leavell) Doty, Kris (Uiselt) Tighe’, Ken Uiselt, Ryan Steele, Lindsey (Steele) Mulholland, Jamie Leavell, Jessica (Leavell) Rockwell, Brittany (Leavell) Streck, and Rob Leavell; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Howard Boldry and Gale Boldry; and a sister, Wanda Hauser.
Funeral services will be at noon Thursday at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester. Burial will be in the Ever-Rest Memorial Park, Logansport.
Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. to noon Thursday at the funeral home.
