Addie Farris W. Mayfield, 90, Columbus, passed away at 2:55 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2014, at Four Seasons Health Care. Farris was born July 27, 1923 in Memphis, Tennessee to the late Samuel V. and Addie Scroggins Wiggins. She met Clyde Mayfield when they entered South Side High School, and after graduating, they were married Easter Sunday, April 5, 1942.
In November her husband enlisted in the Army Air Corps and in 1943 was assigned duties with ATC in West Palm Beach and remained at that post until discharged. Farris and Clyde were blessed with four children, Larry C. Mayfield, Terry Allen Mayfield, James Daniel Mayfield and Cynthia Mayfield.
Farris is survived by her husband, E. Clyde Mayfield; children, Larry C. (Linda) Mayfield, Columbus, and Cynthia Mayfield, Kokomo; seven grandchildren, Wendy Mayfield, Fishers, Michelle (Tony) Fravel, Greenwood, Brittany Mayfield, Noblesville, Jessica Jones of Corona, California, Mark and Kara Mayfield of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, Byron Seward of Tampa, Florida, and Andrea Younts, Walton; seven great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Matthew Fravel, Greenwood, Alec and Emily Mayfield, Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, and Jaden, Kennedy and Brogan Younts, Walton; brother, Robert Wiggins of Germantown, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.
Farris is preceded in death by her parents; and sons, Terry Allen Mayfield and James Daniel Mayfield.
Farris will be greatly missed by her husband, children and family. She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at Forest Hill Midtown in Memphis, Tennessee, with the Rev. Tom Elkins, of Germantown Baptist Church, officiating. Family and friends may call from 8 a.m. until service time Wednesday. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Memphis, Tennessee.
