GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Donald C. Blackman, 85, formerly of Logansport, passed away at 12:08 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2014, in his residence in Gainesville, Fla.
Born on May 5, 1929, in Burnettsville, he was the son of Otis G. and Xenaclea J. Blackman.
On Feb. 12, 1972, in Illinois, he was married to Mary F. Baker, who survives in Gainesville.
Don moved to Florida in 1992 and retired as a security guard for Pinkerton Security Co.
A United States Army veteran, he was a member of the Korean War Veteran Association Chapter No. 267 in Gainesville. He had also been awarded a Bronze Star.
He attended Trinity United Methodist Church in Gainesville.
In addition to his wife, Mary, Don is survived by a son, Dennis Blackman, Monticello; step-sons, Mitch (Deb) Huddleston, Middleboro, Mass., and Tim (Michell) Huddleston, High Springs, Fla.; step-daughters, Melodie Huddleston, Gainesville, and Glenda (Gary) Chambers, Logansport; brother, Howard (Wilma) Blackman, Headlee; eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Don was preceded in death by a son, Roger A. Blackman, four brothers, three sisters and one grandson.
Visitation will be 9 to 10:45 a.m. Friday at Kroeger Funeral Home. Graveside services with full military honors will be 11 a.m. Friday in St. John’s Cemetery. Pastor Adam Speicher will officiate.
