Jane Avis (Appleton) Hanna, 101, Logansport, passed away at 12:51 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2013, at Chase Center, Logansport.
Jane was a leap year baby who was born Feb. 29, 1912, in Walton. She was the daughter of the late Wilfred Earl and Emma (Bumgardner) Appleton. On Aug. 27, 1932, she married Harmol D. Hanna. He preceded her in death July 3, 1979.
She was a 1929 Young America High School graduate.
Jane was a lifelong homemaker and farm wife who had also formerly worked at the H.W. Gossard Company. Jane also gave private piano and violin lessons in her home.
She was a member of Shiloh Christian Church. Jane was also a former member of the Harrison Township Extension Homemakers Club and she enjoyed her cats, playing bingo and Parcheesi, gardening and growing flowers, babysitting her grandchildren and most of all spending time with her family.
Survivors include her children, Sarah Barrett (Vince), Herbert Hanna (Joyce) and Allen Hanna (Janet), all of Logansport; brother, John F. Appleton (Carolyn) of Logansport; grandchildren, Allynn Hand (Matt), Anjie Wallace, Jay Hanna, Jason Hanna (Karen), Craig Hanna (Davina), Matthew Barrett (Shannon), Julie Hanna, Patrick Barrett and Laura Barrett; and great-grandchildren, Daniel Wallace, Kyle Wallace, Kourtnee Wallace, Kaylene Hanna, Justin Hanna, Tyler Hanna, Bailey Hanna, Ryleigh Hanna, Nicholas Barrett, Jackson Barrett, Chris Hand and Amy Hand. She is also survived by her niece, who she helped raise, Ellen Ulery of Walton.
She was also preceded in death by her infant daughter, Mary Louise Hanna; sisters, Barbara Shoup, Lucy Brown and Frances “Izzy” Roberson; brother, Gaylord Appleton; half-brothers, Merle and Allen Appleton; and grandson, Indiana State Trooper Daniel Roy Barrett.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Home, Royal Center Chapel, with Pastor Tim McKaig officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
