Margaret A. Hirschauer


---- — Margaret A. Hirschauer, 98, Logansport, passed away at 5 p.m.Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at her residence.

Born in Lyons, now Clinton, Iowa, on Nov. 3, 1914, she was the daughter of Martin and Wilhelmina Albertina Hoffmann Moesinger.

She was baptized Feb. 21, 1915, and confirmed in the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Clinton April 1, 1928.

Following her graduation from high school in Clinton, Iowa, Margaret moved to Chicago, attended Business College and was employed as a legal secretary until her marriage.

On Aug. 6, 1946, in Chicago, Margaret was married to Tom F. Hirschauer, who preceded her in death March 18, 2006.

In addition to raising four children and maintaining a 12-room house, Margaret was very active in the community serving in various positions. She was proud of her service to the Cass County Children’s Home where she served as treasurer and later as president.

She was an avid golfer, playing into her 90s, and she was extremely competitive playing in tournaments for many years. Margaret bowled during the winter when she did not play golf. When she was no longer able to bowl, she continued to attend the bowling girls’ luncheons, which were the high point of her week in her last years. She was a competitive bridge player for many years.

Margaret was a prodigious seamstress and knitter and handcrafted clothing and sweaters for three generations of her family. Her children remember her as a gourmet cook and were proud of her sense of style and elegance.

She had been a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Logansport since 1947.

Surviving are sons, Jay Thomas Hirschauer of Logansport; Dr. Jeffrey S. (Patricia Mah) Hirschauer of Spokane, Wash.; and Thomas Franklin (Cathy) Hirschauer Jr. of Carmel; daughter, Gretchen Hirschauer (William) Price of Kensington, Md.; five grandchildren, Thomas Hirschauer III, Amelia Hirschauer, Alec Hirschauer, Margaret (Maggie) Hirschauer and Margaret Price; and great-grandson, Thomas Hirschauer IV. Also surviving are sister, Dorothy Scott of Boyton Beach, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded by brother, Raymond Moesinger; and sister, Helen Marr.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Lutheran Church with Pastor K. C. Dehning officiating.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Kroeger Funeral Home and from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
