KOKOMO – Max W. Oyler, 86, Kokomo, passed away at 10:11 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at his home.
He was born Dec. 25, 1926, in Kokomo. The son of Robert and Bertha (Moore) Oyler. He married Olive K. Gillam July 21, 1945, she passed away Dec. 6, 2008.
Max graduated from Ervin Township High School in 1945. He was a farmer all his life and also retired from Chrysler Corporation after 30 years of service as fire marshal. He was a member of Judson Baptist Church where he served as a trustee and a deacon. Max was also member of the New London Masonic Lodge FAM 283, Scottish Rite of Indianapolis, and a member of Young America Lions Club. Max enjoyed woodworking, and being around his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the joy of his life.
Survivors include Judy (Don) Nelson, Kokomo; two granddaughters, Angela Jarvis and Stephanie (Jeremy) Meek, both of Kokomo; three great-grandchildren, Kaytlin Jarvis Meek, Kayden Meek and Kayla Meek; step-grandson, Eric Nelson; step-granddaughter, Jenifer Piper; one brother, Bart (Betty) Oyler, Kokomo; and one sister, Sue Adams, Burlington. Several nieces and nephew also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Bertha; wife, Olive; one daughter, Kathy Gay Oyler; brother, Robert Oyler; and two sisters, Reba Kirtley and Reeby King.
Due to a scheduling conflict at Judson Baptist Church, funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Faith Church of Christ, Burlington, with Pastor Gary Britton and Steve Cole. Burial will follow at Mound Cemetery in Howard County.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Faith Church of Christ. Masonic services will be at 8 p.m. today.
