MIAMI COUNTY — Alvin M. Schmidt Sr., 89, Miami County, passed away Tuesday morning, June 11, 2013.

He was born March 26, 1924, in Miami County to Charles and Katherine Schmidt. Alvin married Hilda M. Boettjer April 3, 1945. They shared a happy life together for 68 years. Alvin was a retired farmer, avid hunter and fisherman until his illness kept him confined. He also loved mushroom hunting in Michigan.

Alvin is survived by his wife, Hilda, three sons and wives, Alvin M. Schmidt Jr. (Linda L.), James R. Schmidt (Becky), Tracey W. Schmidt (Teresa) and daughter Linda A. Schmidt, all in Indiana. He has four grandsons, Craig, Dan, Joe and Kenny; two granddaughters, Amanda Frey (Zach) and Cameron Schmidt; one step-grandson, Sean Johnson; two step-granddaughters, Nichole and Lydia Johnson; four great-grandsons and four great-granddaughters. His brother-in-law Robert J. Williams and several nephews survive.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Betty Williams. He was a member of the Scottish Rites, Eastern Star and the Masons, and the Bunker Hill Fish and Game Club.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home with Scott Ellison officiating. There will be a graveside service at Ever-Rest Memorial Park.

A viewing will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, Peru.
