flora — Thelma Brown, 96, rural Flora, passed away at 11:25 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, at St. Elizabeth Central Hospital, Lafayette.

She was born June 21,1917, in London, Ky., the daughter of Leonard W. and Augusta (Tankisley) Brown. She was a 1939 graduate of Lilly High School in Kentucky and a 1961 graduate of Marion College, Marion. She was an elementary school teacher, having taught at London, Ky., for one year, Russiaville for two years, Camden for 12 years and Hillcrest Elementary at Delphi for 11 years. She retired in 1981.

She married Everett O. Brown on June 2, 1944, at Newport, Ky. He preceded her in death on March 28,1999.

She is survived by two sons, Kenneth “Jerry” Brown of Jacksonville, Fla., and Lynn A. Brown of rural Flora. Two grandsons and two granddaughters and nine great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Flossie Ernst of North Fork, Idaho, and Alma Hedger of Columbus.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

She was a member of Camden First Baptist Church, where had served as a Sunday school teacher, Indiana State Teachers Association, Carroll County Classroom Teachers, Indiana Retired Teachers Association, she was a charter member of the Camden Lioness Club and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary at Camden.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Cree Funeral Home, with her son Pastor Jerry Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Camden Cemetery. Friends and former students may call after 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Camden-Jackson Township Public Library.
