Rayburn “Mike” McManus, 83, Logansport, passed away Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, in The Arbor at Memorial Hospital. Born March 21, 1930, in Logansport, he was the son of Dennis and Goldie Stewart McManus. He was married in Logansport on June 20, 1959, to Betty J. Hinkle, who survives.
Mike was a well-known statewide, self-employed sign painter and artist. For many years he hand lettered the fire trucks of Universal Fire Apparatus, which were shipped throughout the United States and the world. He was a 1950 graduate of Leiters Ford High School and earned an associate degree from St. Elizabeth Art School in Lafayette. Mike was an active and faithful member of Main Street United Methodist Church, and was a member of the Gideons.
He is survived by his wife, Logansport; a son, Cass Michael (Sabrina) McManus, Logansport; a daughter, Cheryl Kay (Kenneth) Alcorn, Logansport; sisters, Frances Webster, Logansport, Rebecca Reichard, Culver, and Marie (Dominic) Mittica, Logansport; grandchildren, Misty (Bill) Moyer, Sarah McManus and Brett McManus; great-grandchildren, Alex Moyer and Cameron Moyer; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Renee McManus; four brothers, Walter McManus, Dennis McManus, Wayne McManus and Dale McManus; and two sisters, Merle Reichard and Lova Kelly.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Kroeger Funeral Home. The Reverend Damon Soper will officiate. Burial will be in Ever-Rest Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
