---- — BURROWS — Robert L. “Brownie” Brown, 89, Burrows, passed away at 1:20 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, at IU Health Arnett Hospital, Lafayette.

He was born Nov. 3, 1924, in Burrows, to the late Paul and Josphine Carney Brown. His marriage was to Quincine J. “Skeet” Downham in Logansport, on June 8, 1947, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 6, 2011.

He was a 1942 graduate of Delphi High School, and a WWII Navy veteran, in the South Pacific, on the USS Intrepid. He was wounded on Thanksgiving day in 1944 in a battle in the South Pacific. He farmed all of his life in Liberty Township, Carroll County, and drove a school bus for the Delphi Community School Corporation from 1957-1967.

He was Fire Chief of the Liberty Township Volunteer Fire Department for 37 years, Camden Masonic Lodge, 1954, Indianapolis Scottish Rite, 1965, Indianapolis Murat Shrine, 1969. He belonged to the 40 and 8 of Lafayette, Delphi and Logansport American Legions and the Logansport VFW.

He enjoyed raising his ponies, and participating in many parades with them, his fishing trips to Minnesota, and the many winters he and his wife spent in La Feria, Texas.

Surviving are his daughters, Sharon and Chuck Everett of Flora, Nancy J. Anderson of Delphi, Tina and Jim Garrison of Delphi; son, Curt and Sue Brown of Delphi; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son Brian; son in law Charlie and a brother Ed.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Abbott Funeral Home, Delphi. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, at the funeral home, with Rev. Nord Zootman officiating.

Burial will take place at Burrows Cemetery, with military rites by the Carroll County Honor Guard.
