KOKOMO — Mary Alice Harper, 90, Kokomo, passed away at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, at Kindred Place, Kokomo, where she had been a resident for several weeks.
Born April 9, 1923, in Carroll County, she was the daughter of Roy Monroe and Inah Jane (McMath) Caldwell.
On Jan. 6, 1978, she married Ralph Winslow and he preceded her in death on April 23, 1979. On Dec. 22, 1985, she married Everette E. Harper and he preceded her in death on Dec. 11, 1996.
Mary Alice was a 1941 graduate of Deer Creek High School and later graduated from Logansport Business College in 1945. Following her graduation, she served as a legal secretary for the law firm of Hanna, Small, Sabatini & Becker for 30 years, retiring in 1977.
She was a 50-year member and Past Matron of the former Carroll Chapter 475 Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Loyalty Circle of Main Street United Methodist Church and a 50-year member and past president of the Camden Women’s Literary Club.
Mary Alice loved to travel, including two trips around the world and an African safari, read, do needle work of all kinds, especially cross stitch and other creative arts including music. She served as church organist and directed the church choir for many years at the St. Peters Lutheran Church in Camden before moving to Kokomo.
She is survived by a son-in-law, Wade (Penny (Harper) deceased) Dick and a step-granddaughter and husband Michelle (Richard) Hruska; a step-grandson Brian Dick; and step-great-grandsons, Thomas R. Hruska and Joseph H. Hruska; a nephew, Pat (Beth) George of Lafayette; four nieces, Christy (Danny) McCloskey of Walton, Barbara Jo (Don) McCain of Camden, Lynnette Cummins (Norm) of Pendleton and Jane Ann Dimitt of Lafayette.
Also surviving are six great-nephews, five great-nieces, three great-great-nieces and three great-great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters Dorothy (Curtis) George and Josephine (Bob (deceased)) Wyatt; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Ruth and Gene Ward.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Eller Mortuary, Webster Chapel, Kokomo, with the Rev. Nancy S. Blevins officiating. She will be laid to rest privately at Sunset Memory Gardens.
Friends may visit with the family from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday.
