William 'Bill' Mark Gallaher

William “Bill” Mark Gallaher, 74, Logansport, passed away at 10:58 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2014, in his residence following an extended illness.

Born March 11, 1940, in Logansport, he was the son of the late William and Ruth (Myers) Gallaher. In July of 1982, in Waukesha, Wis., he married Erika W. Septmacher, who survives.

Bill served in the National Guard for 37 months, in the Army Corp of Engineers for 36 months and in the U.S. Army as a tank mechanic in Germany. He was discharged in 1962 as specialist 4th class, Sec E4.

He retired from Chrysler Corp. in Kokomo in 2001 after 37 years of service. Bill graduated from Logansport High School in 1959. He was a member of the UAW 685, American Legion Post 60, VFW Post 3790, the N.R.A. and the Izaak Walton League.

Bill loved the outdoors as well as shooting sports. He was fond of tractors and muscle cars. It was comical how he would make it clear that “imports didn’t count.” We all will remember him most for his humorous, warm, kindhearted and giving personality. Bill is well known for his amazing skills with gun-smithing artistry. His outstanding gun engraving, checkering and restoration skills were documented in several national gun magazines.

Surviving along with his wife are three children, John Gallaher, Danny Gallaher and Diane Blackford; three stepsons, Ronnie (Mary Sue) Roller, Steave (Sherrie) Roller and Bill (Donna) Roller; four siblings, Bruce (Judy) Gallaher, Burt (Ruthann) Gallaher, Mike (Sue) Gallaher and Kathie Norlin; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Gundrum Funeral Home with Pastor Will Braniff officiating. Burial with full military graveside rites will be in Davis Cemetery, Burnettsville.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday also in the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Great Lakes Caring Hospice in Kokomo.
