Harold Keith 'Nip' Slusher

---- — WALTON — Harold Keith “Nip” Slusher, 81, Walton, passed away at 6:57 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, at Chase Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Logansport.

He was born June 21, 1932, in Logansport to the late Ralph and Pearl (Guy) Slusher.

Harold was married to Emilie A. Zell, Sept. 5, 1953, in Onward. He graduated from Walton High School in 1950, and served in the U.S. Army at Fort Knox, Ky., as a tank instructor from 1952 to 1954.

Harold was a part owner of Slusher’s Standard Service Station, Walton, for 35 years. In 1983, they moved to Marco Island, Fla., where he worked on a charter fishing boat in the Gulf of Mexico, saying he got paid to go fishing. Harold became an avid scuba diver, diving off many islands in the Caribbean.

Harold was a life member of the American Legion, Walton Post 418. He and Emilie greatly enjoyed riding a motorcycle around the country. During the Indiana winters, you could find him on a pond ice fishing. Harold loved the church. While a member of the Capri Christian Church, Isles of Capri, Fla., he worked many hours keeping the church in tiptop shape. He was instrumental in starting the Sunrise Easter Service in the large tent, which continues to this day. After moving to Tavares, Fla., Nipper was a server of communion at the Adventure Christian Church for many years before becoming ill. After recently moving back to Indiana, he renewed his membership in the Walton Christian Church.

Harold is survived by Emilie, his wife of 60 years; daughter Diane (Mark) Muchetti, Fern Park, Fla.; son Keith Slusher, Anamosa, Iowa; grandchildren John (Kelly) Muchetti, Virginia Beach, Va., Angelica Muchetti, Orlando Fla., Jennifer (Brent) Flickinger, Anamosa, Iowa, and Riley Slusher, Naples, Fla.; great-grandchildren Haven and Archer Muchetti, Virginia Beach, Va.; and sister Patsy (Bob) Ramer, Walton.

Harold was preceded in death by three brothers, Bobby, Corwin and Raymond Slusher.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Walton Christian Church, 103 W. Bishop St., Walton, with William Collins officiating.
