William E. “Bill” Lucas, 92, Logansport, passed away peacefully Sunday evening, March 16, 2014, at his home with his family present.
He was born Aug. 19, 1921, in Putnam County, to William Earl and Mae (Dickerson) Lucas. On Dec. 21, 1941, he married L. Eloise Yoder in LaCrosse. She preceded him in death on March 17, 1995.
He was a World War ll veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a member of the American Legion Post 60, Elks Lodge 66, Eagles Lodge 323 and the Martinsville Masonic Lodge 74.
He retired as a mechanic from Courier Newsom in 1978 and opened Bill’s Custom Golf where he made and repaired golf clubs for people here and around the world until last year. He was an avid golfer and was well known throughout the area.
He is survived by daughters Sharon (Jim) Bailey of Arcadia, Susan Lucas and Sandra Lucas of Sarasota, Fla.; a son, Stephen (Fran) Lucas of Logansport; grandchildren, Dorian (Tammy) Lucas of Seymour, Joshua Benson and Stephanie (Chris) Frank, both of Logansport; three great-grandchildren; nephews Bill (Judy) Ellington of Peru, Dan (Bev) Ellington of Logansport, and Ed (Char) Lucas of Monticello; and several great-nephews and -nieces.
A great-granddaughter preceded him in death.
Bill’s family are very appreciative of all the great friends who have stopped to visit and encourage him through the years since his wife’s death. We would like to give a special thank you to Guardian Angel Hospice for the excellent care and support that they provided.
At Bill’s request a private graveside service will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
