Roscoe ‘Tommy’ Thompson


WALTON — Roscoe “Tommy” Thompson, 96, Walton, passed away at 4:50 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 2013, at McKinney House, Logansport.         

Born May 28, 1916, in Watseka, Ill., he was the son of Willett and Ruth (Kline) Thompson. He married Opal J. (Bean) Thompson July 16, 1939 in Logansport. She preceded in death May 8, 2001.       

His first job was with the U.S. Agriculture Dept. He started farming in 1939 and was an inspector for the US Army Corp. of Engineers.  He and his wife owned and operated Combs Shoe Store in Logansport until its closing. He graduated from Bunker Hill High School in 1934.

He was a member of Otterbein Methodist Church and later transferred to the Galveston United Methodist Church. He was a past governor for the Moose Lodge, past member of the Elks and Eagles Lodges. Survivors include his daughter, Judy A. Guy, Walton; two grandchildren, Tia (Jack) Shadday, Walton, and Tom L (Maria) Guy, Indianapolis; four great-grandchildren, Jordan (Lexi) Shadday, Hannah Guy, Mallory Guy and Zachary Guy; nephew, Ronnay Jackson and several great-great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son-in-law, Harold G. Guy, and nephew, Bill Jackson.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Monday at Murray Weaver Funeral Home, Galveston, with Rev. Larry Phillips officiating. Burial will be at Walton IOOF Cemetery, Walton.

Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday at Murray Weaver Funeral Home.
