Mary Ellen Hoover, 80, Kewanna, passed away at 2:39 a.m. Sunday, April 7, 2013, in Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester, following a courageous battle with breast cancer the past several months.
Born June 1, 1932, in Cass County, Ind., she was the daughter of John and Gertrude Forgey Little. She was married in the Baptist Temple in Logansport on Sept. 28, 1951, to Frank Hoover who preceded her in death Dec. 6, 1999.
Mary Ellen was a 1950 graduate of Walton High School. For many years she worked at General Tire and RBM.
She was a member of Fletchers Lake United Methodist Church. Mary Ellen was a former member of the local Coordinating Council for the Governor’s Commission for a Drug-free Indiana. She had also worked for the state excise Tobacco Retail Inspection Program.
Surviving are one son, Brian Andrew Hoover, Kewanna; one daughter, Marsha Lee Chambers and her husband Ed, Xenia, Ohio; Cathi Collins, Macy, who was like a daughter to her; one brother, John Little, Pensacola, Fla.; two sisters, Sandra Fischer and her husband Craig, St. Helena, S.C.,and Joyce Schrum, Logansport.; three grandchildren, Erin Chambers and his wife Carrie, Seth Chambers, Mary Irene Cathcart and her husband Marc; five great-grandchildren, Isaiah Cathcart, Nathan Cathcart, Mellissa Chambers, Ashlee Chambers, Summer Chambers.
She was preceded in death by one son Dana Lynn Hoover and one brother Bill Little.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Fisher Funeral Chapel with Pastor Dave Sommers officiating. Interment will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Logansport.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the service Saturday in the funeral chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hope Hospice and the Fletcher’s Lake U.M. Church.
