Merle H. Gray, 83, Camden, died at 10 p.m. Monday, April 8, 2013, at home.
He was born in White County July 2, 1929, the son of Harry H. and Mamie G. (Edgerly) Gray. He was a 1947 graduate of Camden High School and attended Purdue University. He worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad prior to serving as a corporal in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 serving in Germany. On Jan. 29, 1955, at Wyona Lake, he married Lorraine E. Ness. He worked as a rural mail, retiring from the U.S. Postal Service in 1990. He worked for Wal-Mart in Lafayette, retiring from there in 2011. He was a member of the Lighthouse of Hope United Pentecostal Church, Logansport.
Surviving along with his wife are four daughters, Rachael (Eric) DeRudder, Lafayette, Beth (Randy) Stephens, Cutler, Melinda (Troy) Rossetter, Delphi, and Jennifer (Bryan) Clingenpeel, Camden; three sons, Tim (Rhonda) Gray, Raleigh, N.C., Tom Gray, Delphi, and Ted Gray, Camden; one brother, Leo (Renee) Gray, San Diego, Calif.; two sisters, Eva Elaine Vandenberg, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Carol (Tom) Majewski, Westville; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Earl Gray; one sister and brother-in-law, Alice and John Clear; and seven Hartman step-siblings.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Cree Funeral Home, Camden, with Pastor Joshua Bault officiating. Burial will follow in the Camden Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to services on Friday at the funeral home.
