S. Pauline Sherman


MISHAWAKA — S. Pauline Sherman, 98, Mishawaka, passed away at 11:10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, in Healthwin Center, South Bend.

Born Aug. 30, 1914, in Cass County, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Nannie Susan Starkey Shaffer. She was married in Logansport March 25, 1935, to Foster Sherman, who preceded her in death Feb. 5, 1997.

A graduate of Walton High School, Pauline was retired from Kroger’s grocery store where she had worked as a cashier for 30 years.

She had been a longtime member of the River of Life Christian Church where she had been active in the Women’s Fellowship and had served as a deaconess. In earlier years she was an avid bowler and member of the Logansport Bowling Association. She also enjoyed playing cards.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley J. and Ken Lohning of Logansport and Rita K. and Roger Myers of South Bend; one son, Martin L. Sherman of Medford, Ore.; a sister-in-law, Betty Smith of Lucerne; five grandchildren and their spouses, Dave and Mary Ellen Lohning of Macomb Township, Mich., Marcia and Chris Fecteau of Medford, Ore., Steve and Stephanie Myers of South Bend, Alex and Lissa Myers of Denver, Colo., Kelly and Cice Myers of Shanghai, China; seven great-grandchildren, Nick Lohning, Cody Fecteau, Ava Myers, Evan Myers, Eli Myers, Isaac Myers and Katelyn Myers; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Joanne Sherman; sister, Ruby Williams; and two brothers, Harley Shaffer and Tom Smith.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Fisher Funeral Chapel with her nephew Pastor Ken Smith and Dr. Sam Young officiating. Burial will follow in the Ever Rest Memorial Park.

Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral chapel.
