LOGANSPORT — Charles E. “Smitty” Smith, 78, Holiday, Fla., formerly of Monticello and Logansport, passed away Jan. 17, 2012, in his home surrounded by his family and friends after a three-year-long battle with lung cancer.
He is the son of Charles (Thelma) Smith, and mother, Fern Harter. She preceded in death.
Surviving are his wife of 14 years, Anita L. Smith; daughters, Tanya (Dennis) Ream, Royal Center, Candis (Dave) Kennell, Royal Center, and Rita Ross (Neal), Camden; stepson, Bruce (Senga) Peters, Idaville; Derek Ross, Logansport, who was loved like a son; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Bob (Nancy) Leasure, St. Cloud, Fla., and Dave (Janie) Smith, Delphi; and sisters, Betty Viney, Camden, and Barb (Chuck) Erickson, Logansport.
Smitty attended school in Burrows and Delphi High School and was a veteran of the Korean War serving his time in Germany from 1952 to 1954. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and a lifetime member of the VFW. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, traveling, woodworking and fishing.
He was the past owner of Cliff’s Auto Parts and retired from Walmart in 1999 and moved to Holiday, Fla.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, especially Jamie and Stacey Delgardo and family, Holiday, Fla.
Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 4 at River of Life Christian Church in Logansport. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church.
