Robert H. Meyer, 88, Kokomo, died at 9:05 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, at Century Villa Health Care in Greentown.
He was born Feb. 11, 1924, in Logansport, the son of Henry and Emma Waltz Meyer. He married Catherine Fosler in Logansport, May 21, 1950, and she survives.
Bob was a 1942 graduate of Logansport High School. He served as a medic in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired in the late 1990s after a career spent mostly in retail. He managed the men’s and boy’s clothing department at Montgomery Ward from 1962 until the store closed in the early 1980s. After that, he worked in the men’s clothing department at Big R, where he became the Voice of Bargain Bob on the radio.
Bob was an active member of Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, serving on the board of deacons and organizing the tape ministry as well as singing in the adult choir. He volunteered at the Rescue
Mission. He was a member of Kiwanis and the Golden K Club of that organization. In addition to his wife, Catherine, he is survived by one daughter, Beth Dinkel and her husband, Dan. Several nieces and nephews
also survive. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet, who died in childhood; one brother, Edwin Meyer; and two sisters, Helen Schuetz and Dorothy Meyer.
Funeral services are planned for 10 a.m. Thursday at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, 705 Southway Blvd. East, with Pastors William Allison and Barry Akers officiating.
Graveside services will follow at 2 p.m. in Mount Hope Cemetery, Logansport, with military honors provided by the Howard County Military Rites Team and the U.S. Navy.
The family will receive friends from 4 until 8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour before the service Thursday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to The Lutheran Hour and/or Redeemer Lutheran School.
