Jack L. Arion

CHECOTAH, Okla. — Jack L. Arion, Checotah, Okla., went to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, July 13, 2012, at the age of 79. He was born in Flora, on Aug. 17, 1932, to Everett and Rebecca Kerns Arion.

Jack attended Royal Center High School. He married Velda Lois Hayden on Feb. 21, 1950, in a candle light ceremony at Sample Street Methodist Church in South Bend. Jack was a prominent businessman in Palm Springs, Calif., retiring in Checotah in 1980.

After moving to Checotah, Jack worked for several years at Coburn Optical in Muskogee. He volunteered time as Ombudsmen and also enjoyed helping families with funerals at Hampton Mortuary. Jack loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as playing golf with his family and friends. Jack raised a large family and enjoyed caring for them. They were most important to him, and he cherished time spent with them, especially his grandkids.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Jack Jr. and his wife, Linda, and Danny and his wife, Betty, all of Checotah, Okla., and David and his wife, Lori, Muskogee, Okla.; three daughters, Julia Marks and her husband, Adrian, Teresa Cockrell, and Trina Coleman and her husband, David, all of Warner, Okla.; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Lois Andrews and her husband, Bruce; brother, Dick Arion and his wife, Bonnie; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives, neighbors, friends and loved ones.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Velda; his parents; his grandsons, Danny Gene Arion, Jr., and Robert Gene Smith; his granddaughter, Wendy Lee Smith; and his great-grandson, Shelby Thomas Marks.

Jack’s life will be celebrated 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church of Checotah, with the Rev. Steve Dennis officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery with Justin Cockrell, Lee Coleman, Adrian Marks Jr., Aaron Cockrell, Chris Marks, Matthew Arion and Eric Sheridan serving as pallbearers.

Services were entrusted to Checotah Funeral Service in Oklahoma.
