Donald R. “Snapper” Schnapf, 82, Logansport, formerly rural Royal Center, passed away at 1:06 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Indianapolis.
Born March 10, 1931, in Evansville, he was the son of the late Benhardt and Nora (Stephens) Schnapf. On Feb. 1, 1953, he married Charlotte M. Sommers, she survives.
He was a graduate of Boonville High School and a 1953 Purdue University graduate. Don was a U.S. Air Force Veteran.
He was a farmer in rural Fulton County from 1957 until his retirement in 2011.
Don was a former Fulton County 4-H leader for over 35 years, where he was also in charge of the Dairy Barn for many years. He was a former member of Grass Creek United Methodist Church. Don had also been a former Wayne Township Committeeman and volunteer fireman and had also served on the Wayne Township Advisory Board. He enjoyed woodworking, model trains, fishing and spending time at their cottage on Mud Lake.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Schnapf, Logansport, niece, Rita Meny (Steve), Haubstadt, and nephew, Mark Schnapf (Jodie), Newburg.
He was also preceded in death by son, Gerald “Gary” Schnapf, one brother and one sister.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Home, Royal Center, with Pastor David Sommers officiating. Burial with military rites will be at Grass Creek Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and also one hour before the time of service Saturday.
