Jerry L. Myers, 78, Logansport, passed away at 8:10 a.m. Monday, April 15, 2013, in Logansport Memorial Hospital.
Born June 27, 1934 in Michigan, he was the son of Floyd and Katherine Young Van Meter.
Jerry was married Sept. 18, 1971 in Delphi to Coral E. Smith, who preceded him in death April 16, 2011.
A 1952 graduate of Grass Creek High School, he served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed skydiving even in his later years.
He was retired from Rockwell International, Matthew Warren and Trelleborg.
Jerry was a member of the Logansport Elks Lodge. In earlier years, he had been active in youth athletic programs as a coach and umpire and was a volunteer with Cass County Junior Achievement.
Jerry played the clarinet and had been a professional musician with Les Brown and other big bands.
Surviving are daughters, Nickola Myers (Donzell Verdun) of Lafayette, Dawn Griffith (Mike Foutz) of Logansport and Jeri Lynn (Jerry) Charbonneau of Forestport, N.Y.; son, Larry “Chip” Myers (Esther Erickson) of Ashburnham, Mass.; brothers, Teddy Van Meter of Mentone and Martin (Sherry) Van Meter of Kewanna; sisters, Lila (John) Ritschard of South Bend and Kay Ezra of Mishawaka.
Also surviving are nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
One son, Martin Joseph Myers, preceded him in death.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with Kelly Spencer officiating. Full military honors will be accorded. Interment will be at a later date. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Kroeger Funeral Home, where there will be an Elks Service at 7 p.m.
At Jerry’s request, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Camelot Care Center Activity Fund, Fairview Elementary Backpack Program, Four County Foundation or Hope Hospice.
