Larry Lyle Day
WINAMAC — Larry Lyle Day, 70, Star City, died at 10:25 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, in Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac.
Born Oct. 8, 1939, in Star City, he was the son of L. Wayne and Minnie Mae Moncel Day. He was married Sept. 14, 1958, in Thornhope, to Ermagene Zeek, who preceded in death March 3, 1991.
Larry was a truck driver for his father, Young Transport, and was an independent driver for many years. Larry was also a mechanic for the Indiana State Highway Department. He retired from Schmickers in Winamac in 1997.
He raced and built stock cars for many years. Larry was an avid NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt fan. He also enjoyed watching football, especially the Chicago Bears. Larry enjoyed fishing, scrapping, gardening and mushroom hunting.
He frequently traveled to Daytona, Fla., for NASCAR racing and to Okeechobee, Fla., for fishing.
Larry enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed “hanging out” at Oak Grove and Cooter’s in Star City.
Surviving are children, Tina Lloyd, Mentone, Sue (Fred) Haselby, Star City, Lara (Mike) Fulgham, Winamac, Larry Wayne “Jake” (Susan) Day, Star City, Billy J. (Erica) Day, Winamac, and Marsha L. Fritz, Winamac; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Monte Day, Okeechobee, Fla.; companion, Esther Searcy, Star City; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jeannette Marjorie Tomlinson; brothers, Billie Day and Victor Day; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Frain Mortuary in Winamac with the Rev. Edward Clark officiating.
Burial will be in Star City West Cemetery, Star City.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to the funeral home.
