‘Doc’ Orval J. Baber
GALVESTON — Services for “Doc” Orval J. Baber, 84, Walton, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Walton Christian Church, 103 W. Bishop St., Walton.
He went home to be with the Lord at 7 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, at his home in Walton.
Born Oct. 4, 1923 in Logansport, he was the son of Orval F. and Cora Campbell Baber. He was married on Nov. 8, 1946, in Walton Christian Church in Walton, to Jean Fitzer Baber, who survives.
Doc retired in 1985 from Civil Service at Grissom AFB. He was a Navy Veteran in WWII.
He served as a Deacon at Walton Christian Church and was a member of the Walton American Legion.
He served as a volunteer at Thompson Elementary School in Walton for 16 years. He enjoyed reading and working puzzles. He liked keeping his house and church beautiful and spending time with family and friends.
Also surviving is a son, Jeff and Cindy Baber, Walton; grandsons, Joel and Kristen Baber, Kansas City, Mo., and Jacob Baber and fiancee, Allison Rober, Indianapolis; brother, Harlan Baber, Logansport; and two great-granddogs, Winston and Einstein.
His parents; and four brothers, Jim, Forest, Gordon and Robert Baber, preceded in death.
Rev. Bill Collins will officiate. Burial will be in Walton IOOF Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday in Murray Weaver Funeral Home Galveston Chapel and one hour prior to services on Tuesday in the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Walton Christian Church or the Cass County Community Foundation Southeastern School Corporation Scholarship fund.
