Betty Jo Lee

Services for Betty Jo Lee, 79, Galveston, will be 5 p.m. Tuesday at Murray-Weaver Funeral Home, 401 S. California St., Galveston.

She died at 3:40 a.m. Central time Thursday, July 2, 2009, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Born May 9, 1930, in Kokomo, she was the daughter of Joseph E. and Mabel (Thatcher) Hodson. She married Robert O. Lee July 24, 1948, in Indianapolis and he preceded her in death March 17, 2006.

She retired from Bell Telephone Co. in Kokomo with 34 years of service as a secretarial engineer in 1986.

She was an avid bicyclist with her husband and a member of Wheel People Bicyclist Association, Kokomo Art Association and ABWA (American Business Women’s Association). A member of the Pioneer’s (Bell Telephone), she also served at district coordinator for the AARP with tax preparation.

She is survived by two daughters, Barb and Dave Horoho, Galveston, and Jane and Mark Einstein, Lafayette; a son, Bobby Lee and Anita Reynolds, Galveston; grandchildren, Betty Jane Hatton, Galveston, Susan and Bryan Collins, Kokomo, Kathyrn Einstein, Paxton, Ill., Jake and Megan Sanders, Sara and Samar Upadhyay and Josh and Melanie Sanders, all of Minnesota, Robert E. Lee Jr., Kokomo, Kelly Horoho, Galveston, and Matt Reynolds, Galveston; great-grandchildren, Jessalyn, Maddelyn and Colin, Hatton, Galveston, Jordan Nijim, Paxton, Ill., Devyn Johnson, Kokomo, Amber, Sydney, and Chelsey Collins, Kokomo, Erynne Lee, Markle, and Sander Lee Upadhyay, Minnesota; a brother, George Richard Swing, Galesburg, Ill.; stepsisters, Sue Hendrix, Kokomo; and a half sister, Mary Jo Hodson, Galveston; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded by parents, husband, Robert; six brothers; and four sisters.

Pastor Greg Reed will officiate. Burial will be in Galveston Cemetery.

Calling will be 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and 3 to 5 p.m. before the service Tuesday.

Memorials may be made to the Kokomo Art Association.
