Robert R. Riewoldt
ROCHESTER — A celebration of life for Robert R. Riewoldt, 77, Rochester, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Good Family Funeral Home.
He died Wednesday, May 7, 2008.
Robert graduated from Logansport High School in 1948. After graduation, he was beckoned to serve our country with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Upon his return, he enrolled at Fort Wayne Business College, where he earned a degree in business. He was a 57-year member of American Legion Post 424 in Bourbon.
As a woodworking craftsman, Robert was delighted to create custom gifts for family and special friends. These beautiful presents included lamps, cabinets, rocking horses and wind mills, and birdhouses are among his most appreciated. He also built model vintage airplanes from balsa wood, ships and carved miniature statues, including a miniature-scale model of himself.
As an avid walker, Robert strode along the Woodlawn Trail with his loving wife, Barbara, or his wonderful canine companion, “Happy,” the Walker Hound. Whenever Robert exclaimed, “Let’s take a drive in the buggy,” his family headed for the car. He will always be remembered for his spicy vernacular and superb sense of humor.
Prior to Barb’s passing on Oct. 27, 2006, she and Robert were like two peas in a pod — inseparable. Friends and family rarely saw one without the other. As a prominent dessert connoisseur, his most favorite delectable delights were peanut butter pie and Fudgesicles. He was noted as a meticulous record-keeper and authored his personal tool and die reference guide.
Bringing Robert great satisfaction was helping others. Many times he would complete residential wiring for friends. An avid NASCAR fan, he cheered for Dale Earnhardt Jr. Television provided an enjoyable pastime — there wasn’t a week without watching “Law & Order.”
The Rev. Woody Slade will officiate. He will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife, Barbara. Military graveside rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 424 of Bourbon.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today and one hour before services Saturday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hope Hospice.
