DePaul’s Penny earns Big East recognition

The Big East Conference on Monday named Logansport High School product Jasmine Penny to its women’s basketball weekly honor roll. The DePaul senior’s third honor roll accolade of the season comes on the heels of a 93-55 win over Chicago rival Loyola on Saturday.

Penny led the Blue Demons with 19 points which came on 8-of-10 shooting from the field and 3-of-4 shooting from the charity stripe. She added six rebounds, two assists, a block and steal against the Ramblers. Penny played just 21 minutes in the victory.

Seton Hall’s Tabatha Richardson-Smith was named the league’s player of the week and Natalie Butler from Georgetown earned Rookie of the Week honors.

Penny was joined on the honor roll by Daress McClung (Butler), Katie McCormick (Georgetown), Tori Rule (Providence) and Jenna Crittendon (Xavier).
