“We just weren’t very good tonight,” Logan coach Jon Vernon said. “McCutcheon came out and played really well in the first game. We just didn’t play well. I can’t really explain it to be honest. A lot of people were looking for someone else to do the job instead of stepping up and doing it themselves. We have to get it figured out before Thursday.
After the poor start, the Berries had leads in the final two games but couldn’t pull them out.
“We had opportunities in games two and three as poorly as we played,” Vernon said. “We didn’t finish well.
“I told the girls that we’re missing just two girls [Alaina Page and Kiley Victor] from the team that almost won a sectional championship on this floor last year. We didn’t have that fire and determination, effort and intensity that we finished the year last year with.”
Syd Bullard had nine kills and five digs to lead the Berries. Bailey Kelley had 13 assists, four digs and two aces. Monika Ness and Nakeya Penny each added three kills. Lindsey Cheney had four digs and Paulie Frye added two blocks.
The Berries host Northwestern on Thursday for their home opener.
“If we play like we did tonight we’ll be in trouble,” Vernon said. “We’ll be in trouble if we don’t right this ship real quick.”
