Logan is in Year 2 of Urban development

Berries shooting for improvement following one-win season in 2012.

(Continued)

Richmond ran the table in North Central Conference play a year ago and Kokomo is another team that was near the top of the standings.

“I think Richmond is the team to beat looking at what they have coming back being the defending champions. Kokomo is good, too, but I think Richmond is the team to beat. Huntington North is a solid team as well,” Urban said. “We think it’s very wide open. It’s a matter of who plays well and is consistent.

“We’re excited about getting started. Last season left a bitter taste record-wise.”

Looking into the future, the Berries have 25 freshmen coming into the program that enjoyed a successful run in middle school football.

“We’re trying to keep them together and would like them to play together on the freshman team,” Urban said. “We’d like to get them success. We had a few kids that didn’t come out. But we’ve got enough for a freshman team. We’ll see by the end of the year if some of them can possibly help out special teams or maybe some skill positions. If things go well a lot of them will play as sophomores. Things are on the upswing.”

  • NEWCOM: State parks offer fun times at reasonable prices Summer is in full swing and many people are taking trips as part of their summer vacations. You can venture near to home or far away, but the trip is only as good as you and your family make it. The amusement parks and beaches in Florida are nice, but many of us cannot swing those trips these days. The good news is that there are many good state parks in Indiana to enjoy and they are affordable.
