Caston's Rentschler wins MWC girls golf title

Pioneer volleyball beats Harrison; LHS girls XC sets record.

Caston senior Tierney Rentschler shot a 92 Friday at Pond View Golf Course to earn medalist honors at the Midwest Conference girls golf meet.

Rentschler led the Comets to a third-place finish at the event.

Pioneer won the team title. Senior Mati DeWitt led the Panthers with a 99 to finish second among all individuals.

Also for the Panthers, Nicole Schroder shot a 102, April Wheeldon had a 103, Emily Powell had a 112 and Mikayla Greiner had a 118.

Winamac placed second as a team. Cierra Schmicker led the Warriors with a 107. She was followed by Stephanie Crist (114), Gabby Behny (114), Lorrin Alexander (121) and Hannah DeGroot (125).

Caston shot a 475 for third place. Following Rentschler’s 92, Berklee Blackman had a 119, Madeline Moeller had a 125, Emily Strain had a 139 and Kylie Pugh had a 140.

West Central was fourth with a 554 and South Newton was fifth with a 605.

NCC Meet

Logansport shot a 407 to place fifth at the event held Saturday at Edgewood Golf Course in Anderson.

Haley Lopez shot a 91 to lead the Berries. She was followed by Kristina Kniesly (96), Megan Farris (104), Alli Biggs (116) and Grace Boyd (123).

“Haley missed all-conference by one stroke,” LHS coach Bob Bannon said. “She and Megan played their season average, but others were off their games. It seems to happen more often when the pressure is the greatest. We need to finish the season strong.”

Marion won with a 358, followed by Kokomo (385), Richmond (387), Anderson (396), Logan (407), Muncie Central (426) and Huntington North (450).

Anderson’s Morgan Nadaline shot a 2-over 74 to earn medalist honors.

MIC Meet

Cass finished with a score of 512 at Logansport Golf Club. Northwestern won the meet (341), followed by Peru (354) and Hamilton Heights (370).

Kassi Hardy led Cass with a 123, next was Megan Mannering (125), Maddie Karmel (131) and Jael Forker (133).

“I know our scores don’t reflect how well we did,” Cass coach Charlie Jones said. “I am excited to see how much further we come with new players on the team that haven’t played competitive golf before. We have girls with great attitudes, and we are working hard to become better golfers.”

  • NEWCOM: State parks offer fun times at reasonable prices Summer is in full swing and many people are taking trips as part of their summer vacations. You can venture near to home or far away, but the trip is only as good as you and your family make it. The amusement parks and beaches in Florida are nice, but many of us cannot swing those trips these days. The good news is that there are many good state parks in Indiana to enjoy and they are affordable.
