PERU — Logansport’s girls overcame hot temperatures and Peru and Maconaquah on Wednesday at the Peru Municipal Golf Course.

The Berries shot a 204 on the back nine of the Peru Muni to defeat Peru (206) and Maconaquah (238).

Haley Lopez shot a 9-over 44 for medalist honors for the Berries (6-4). She was followed by Kristina Kniesly (47), Alli Biggs (54) and Grace Boyd (59).

“We scored poorly but found a way to win two matches,” LHS coach Bob Bannon said. “Haley pulled us through tonight with a steady round.”

“The back side at Peru is unforgiving to say the least.”

Leading the way for Peru was Madison Denniston’s 48 on senior night, followed by Emma Long (50), Mallory Zorn (51) and Olivia Sharp (57).

Lewis Cass golfers fall against Taylor

Taylor had consistent scores in defeating Mid-Indiana Conference foe Cass 202-249 Wednesday on Chippendale Golf Course’s Vintage Nine Course. Megan Mannering led Cass with a 58, followed by Meghan Hall (62) Jael Forker (64) and Kassi Hardy (65).

Culver Academy shoots past Caston

Caston’s girls golf team was defeated by Culver Academy 160-262 on Tuesday on the front nine at Pond View.

Culver’s Tovia Maarovic was the medalist with a 3-over 35.

Tierney Rentschler led the Comets with a 55, followed by Madeline Moeller (62), Emily Strain (72), Kylie Pugh (73) and Alyssa Fagner (73).

“The weather was hot and CMA is a very good team,” Caston coach Tim Strasser said. “We played without Berklee Blackman due to illness. It was not our best night but we played on.”

Travel team holding tryouts Saturday

FLORA — A 14U travel baseball team is holding tryouts at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Flora Community Park. Questions contact Rod Gish at 765-432-3151.

Kings Basketball is registering

WALTON — Registration for Kings Basketball will be held from 6-8 p.m. next Tuesday at Lewis Cass High School.

Registration is for third, fourth, fifth and sixth grade boys that attend or live in Southeastern School District.

LHS bowling club holding practice

The Logansport High School bowling club is holding its first practice on Monday after school at Myers Sport Bowl.

The cut-off date for new bowlers is Sept. 20. The club is also looking for a sponsor and taking donations and is selling raffle tickets. This is how the club pays for bowling, awards, uniforms and travel. Contact coach Al Franklin at or visit the bowling alley to help donate to the team.

Bowling league looking for bowlers

Sign ups for Winter League Youth Bowling will be held on Saturday and on Sept. 21 from 10 a.m.-noon at Myers Sport Bowl.
