Hunting class scheduled for this weekend

It seemed that summer decided to show up late and the heat definitely put a damper on my outdoor plans for awhile.

It kept me from anything that does not involve swimming, wading or fishing in cool water through recent heat streak.

My plans for cutting and splitting wood were on hold until this warm spell ended. I also stayed out of the woods, so the squirrels are safe for now.

September is almost here and that means that it is once again time to get ready for the many fall hunting seasons to begin.

It is time for any new or seasoned hunters to refresh their knowledge at hunter safety. The course is being held on Saturday and Sunday this year. The Saturday part is mostly classroom work that lasts all day, but you will be fed and treated well. The second day starts at noon and is the range day where all get a chance to try what they have learned in the class the previous day and all under trained supervision. The test is then held and the course is over with all eager for the hunting seasons to begin. The second day will last 5-6 hours.

Range day is always a lot of fun as you get to try your hand at archery, including crossbow, rifle, muzzle-loader, shotgun and tree-stand safety. These hands-on experiences are great for the beginner and that is for anyone of any age. I would personally wait until your child is around 10 years old, but all children have different learning levels, so you can decide for yourself. It is a great day and lots of fun, so I hope you do it. You have to attend both days to pass the course, along with a passing test score.

The class is held at the Logansport Izaak Walton, and they always put on a great class. The people who help are top notch and the information they pass on is most helpful to all. It is a great thing for anyone interested in the outdoors and hunting or shooting sports. The time will go by before you know it and season will begin, so sign up now. The food that the club puts out is always very good, and you might get to try some tasty game sausage samples too.
