“We got a solid pitching performance from Trey and Galen tonight. I was pleased how they competed on the mound,” Caston coach Blake Mollenkopf said. “Defensively we made plays behind them. Offensively we were able to put pressure on the defense and took advantage of some timely bunting and hitting. We will look to carry this momentum into tomorrow night’s sectional game.”
Caston (4-22) faces No. 6 North White at 5:30 p.m. today in the first game of the Class A Tri-County Sectional in Remington.
Tippy Valley 6, Winamac 4
Brent Evans homered for the Warriors against visiting Tippecanoe Valley.
Devin Kistler went 2-for-3 with a run scored. J.T Garnett doubled and had an RBI.
Freshman Jack DeGroot took the loss, allowing six runs on 12 hits, striking out seven.
The Warriors played well and trailed just 2-1 after four and 5-4 after six.
The Warriors (9-15) face Rensselaer (8-14) at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Class 2A Delphi Sectional.
Coach Don Howe said the Warriors’ regular-season game against the Bombers was cancelled due to a conference rescheduled game. He added the Bombers play two conference games each against tough Hoosier Conference foes and have defeated common opponents Rochester, Knox and North Judson.
The championship game is Monday with No. 3 Lafayette Central Catholic and No. 8 Delphi on the other side of the bracket.
Garnett and Dylan Hintz are the likely starters for the Warriors on the mound for sectional play.
