Pioneer freshman Kiser wins regional title in 400 dash

Cass softball advances to sectional title game


Alexa Humerickhouse had two hits including a home run for the Kings. Hailey Holt went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Miranda Cunningham had a hit and two RBIs, and Kassi Zeck added a hit and RBI.

The Kings are seeking their third straight sectional title.

“We just have to keep doing what we’re doing,” Cass coach Jennifer Scott said. “We’re hitting the ball well, fielding well, Cheyenne pitched another great game.”

Cass defeated Oak Hill 4-3 during the regular season but Scott said neither team pitched their top pitcher.

Manchester finishes 14-10.

Caston vs. South Newton

Caston trails South Newton 2-0 in the second inning. The game was postponed due to the weather and will resume at 5:30 p.m. today.

North Miami defeated Tri-County 12-0 in five innings in the earlier semifinal Tuesday.

The final will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Girls tennis

Doubles state tournament

Cass’ No. 1 doubles team of Kirsten Carbaugh and Khyla Wilson defeated Kokomo’s Stephanie Kailey and AnneMarie Balsbaugh 6-0, 6-3 at the Kokomo individual sectional.

The Kings duo will next face the winner between Twin Lakes and Tipton.

“Khyla and Kirsten came out sharp and made some good volleys; the Kokomo girls were a little tight,” Cass coach Stu starting to get some solid points, but we were able to hold on to get the win.”


Caston 9, Oregon-Davis 3

Trey Young and Galen Rentschler combined to shut down the Bobcats in Fulton.

Young allowed three runs on four hits and six walks in 5 1/3 innings, striking out eight. Rentschler pitched 1 2/3 of scoreless relief, striking out two and allowing just a hit and a walk.

John Martin went 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and two runs scored. Brayton Jellison doubled twice and scored a pair of runs. Jake Kingery added a 2-for-4 effort with a run scored.
