The Logansport softball team continued its strong play of late with a sweep at Richmond on Saturday.
The Berries defeated the Red Devils by scores of 12-7 and 14-2.
Logansport (14-7, 3-1 North Central Conference) has now won 10 games in a row.
Logan coach Jim Bacon said his team now resembles the squad he was envisioning at the start of the season.
“We played as well as we have all year today. Our pitching was good, our defense was good and everybody was hitting the ball,” he said. “We scored a lot of runs with two outs. It was a good day.”
The Berries bashed out 25 hits in the doubleheader sweep.
Emily Prentice, Mallory Rowe and Sydney Thompson all homered for the Red and Black in the NCC-counted first game. Rowe also doubled twice and had a five-RBI game. Prentice added two singles and three RBIs. Thompson also singled. Lauren Pruitt and Kristie Flora added a hit and RBI apiece.
Bailie Long (8-3) started and pitched the first 3 1/3 innings. She allowed two earned runs on six hits. Prentice closed out the final 3 2/3 and gave up two earned runs on three hits.
It was prom night for Richmond so the Red Devils utilized a lot of JV players in game two, Bacon said. The Berries won the contest in five innings.
Thompson again homered and added a double and four RBIs. Rowe had three hits including a double and two RBIs. Bailey Kelley had two hits and three RBIs. Prentice had a double, single and RBI. Pruitt singled twice and had an RBI. Abbi Zartman added a single and RBI, and Chelsey Haskett chipped in a base hit.
Long and Prentice combined for a four-hitter. Long allowed no earned runs in four innings, striking out four, and Prentice allowed no earned runs in one inning, striking out two.
