Southwood 4, Caston 3
Southwood scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning and Caston couldn’t get a run across in the bottom of the seventh for the loss.
The Comets (3-9) took the lead in the sixth inning with scoring three runs for a 3-2 lead.
Derek Klimes led Caston with a single and two RBIs. Andrew Corn added an RBI single.
Jake Kingery was the losing pitcher. Kingery came in relief and allowed one earned run on two walks and striking out one. Galen Rentschler was the starting pitcher for Caston. Rentschler pitched the first six innings allowing three earned runs on two hits and five walks. He struck out eight.
“We got another excellent start from a young arm in Rentschler,” Caston coach Blake Mollenkopf said. “He gave six solid innings of two-hit baseball. We got some very timely two-out hits in the sixth inning from Derek Klimes and Andrew Corn to drive in our three runs. Southwood has a nice ballclub, and we battled them well. We need to continue to develop that winning mentality to close out ball games like this one. I am proud of the way our kids competed.”
