Logan overcomes high winds, LCC to improve to 8-2

Logansport’s girls tennis team had three matches go three sets before winning 4-1 over Lafayette Central Catholic in very windy conditions Tuesday at the LHS courts.

The Berries’ No. 1 singles player Whitney Jennings scored a 3-6, 6-0, 6-1 win. Logansport’s No. 1 doubles team of Karli Armstrong and Christine Shepler came out on top 1-6, 6-4, 6-1.

The Berries’ No. 2 singles player Brooke Bullard and the No. 3 singles player Abby Geer each won 6-0, 6-0.

Logansport’s (8-2) only loss came at No. 2 doubles where Cheyenne Ward and Kayleigh Dance won the first set 6-1, but lost the last two sets 6-2, 6-2.

• Logansport defeated Maconaquah 5-0 on Monday. Jennings won 6-0, 6-0, Bullard was tops 6-1, 6-1 and Geer came out on top 6-4, 6-2. Armstrong and Shepler won 6-3, 6-2, and Ward and Olivia Woodruff won 7-5, 6-1.

Both teams tied, which brought it down to the fifth player score. Deion Rennewanz and Matt Beeman each shot 46 to put Logansport (1-3) over the top for its first dual win at Dykeman Park Golf Course in the cold and windy conditions.

Kennedy Achey led the Berries with a score of 40, followed by Will Harvey (43) and Bryan Worthington (44).

“In the toughest conditions we’ve played in, we were able to pull out the win,” Logansport coach Pete Lundy said. “Our younger guys are really stepping up. Kennedy has been our most consistent player. I am proud of him. I can see all our guys improving in certain areas. We have to get all the pieces to fit. It’s a work in progress.”

Trey Doan shot a 96 to lead the Comets.

Winamac 93, Tri-County 49,N. White 13

Kyle Collins was a quadruple winner for Winamac at an MWC meet preview. Individually he won the 800 (2:14), 1600 (4:48) and 3200 (10:50).

Parker Fox took wins in the 300 hurdles (42.04) and long jump (19-9). Zach Markley won the 100 (11.5) and Zen Zupin won the 400 (53.0).
