Logansport Post 60 goes 1-2 at sectional
LAFAYETTE — After defeating Crawfordsville to open American Legion sectional play at Loeb Stadium Friday, Logansport Post 60 was handed two losses on Saturday to end its summer of play.
Logan defeated Crawfordsville 5-2 Friday before a 7-5 loss to Remington and a 5-3 loss to Crawfordsville ended its season.
Peru’s Kyle Marburger went nine innings for the complete game victory for Logan on Friday. He gave up two runs while spreading eight hits and striking out five. Logansport was paced offensively by Travis Palmer’s three hits and Clayton Frye’s two RBIs. The game was tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the eighth before Logan rallied for three runs to take the lead for good.
Kyle Jordan took the loss against Remington in the opener on Saturday. He allowed seven runs on 11 hits. Cody Graf relieved in the sixth inning and pitched three scoreless innings of one-hit ball.
“It was not the Kyle I’m used to seeing. He’s been really good ever since the sectional,” Post 60 coach Tyler Gellinger said. “He didn’t have it today. He pitched well, he just wasn’t as sharp as usual.”
Jacob Shelton had a two-run double to lead Logan’s six-hit attack.
Frye got the ball against Crawfordsville in the later game and a bad start to the game cost him. He allowed five runs on six hits in the first inning before pitching seven straight scoreless innings of three-hit ball the rest of the way to close out a complete-game effort.
Palmer again had three hits to lead the offense. Dustin Clements had two hits. Cooper Kinnaman had an RBI single, and Chris Jones added a double.
“We made it interesting,” Gellinger said. “We scored one in the first, one in the fifth and one in the seventh. We threatened in those innings.
