Darche golf outingset for July 26

Logansport Country Club will be hosting the ninth-annual Harvey Darche Memorial Golf Outing at 9 a.m. on July 26.

Cost is $50 per person, and $50 for hole sponsors. Dinner will be included in the price.

Proceeds benefit Kasia Bannon Minnick.

Prizes will awarded for first and second place, longest putt and longest drive and par 3 closest to the pin.

Colts WR Brazillsuspended for season

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indianapolis Colts backup wide receiver LaVon Brazill has been suspended for the 2014 season for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy.

Colts spokesman Avis Roper said the team had no comment after the league’s announcement.

Brazill was suspended for the first four games last season for violating the substance abuse policy. He said at the time it was for marijuana use.

Brazill played in 10 games last season, finishing with 12 catches for 161 yards and two touchdowns. In two seasons, he has 23 catches for 347 yards and three touchdowns. He was drafted in the sixth round out of Ohio University in 2012.

Defending champ Blixt leads Greenbrier

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. (AP) — Defending champion Jonas Blixt shot a 6-under 64 on Thursday to take a one-stroke lead after the first round of the Greenbrier Classic.

Six of Blixt’s eight birdies came on putts of 10 feet or less on the Old White TPC. The Swede also chipped in from the rough for birdie on No. 16.

Patrick Rodgers, the former Stanford star playing in his third tournament as a pro, was a stroke back along with Chris Kirk, D.A. Points, James Hahn, Jason Bohn, Joe Durant, Jim Renner and Danny Lee.

Steve Stricker topped the group at 66

Masters champion Bubba Watson, the top-ranked player in the field at No. 3 in the world, had a 68.
